Info
Name: Ahmad
Canon: Netflix's Marco Polo
History:
Born into the Fanākatī people. His village was destroyed by the mongols when he was a child. He thought himself the only survivor of his village but later learned that was not entirely true. He was too young to truly understand what was happening when he was brought to Camulac and raised in the court of Kublai Khan as an adoptive son. His only clear memory of his birth parents was the lullaby his mother wrote for and sang to him.
Always having a talent for numbers, Ahmad became the Khan's Minister of Finance for the majority of his adult life. Following the execution of Yusuf, Kublai's former Vice Regnant, Ahmad rose to the position and remained there until his death.
SPOILERS TIME :D WARNING: INCEST
In his early twenties, Ahmad wanted to travel the Empire's trade routes before accepting the title of Minister of Finance. During his travels, he unknowingly slept with his own mother. Upon realizing this, in a rage he killed her. The storm of emotions of that event made him fundamentally change. He no longer viewed Kublai as a father and benefactor but as a tyrant and hated him for not telling him his mother lived. He hated him for treating him as a son, but never as an heir. He hated him for giving him ambition for something he could never have.
Ahmad's view of his situation changed to feeling like a caged animal, feeling more like prisoner doomed to treat his captor's with reverence they did not deserve. So Ahmad did what he does best, he calculated. He very precisely calculated a way he believed he could surpass and ruin Kublai Khan. It took years of planning and he very nearly succeed.
In the end, Ahmad was killed by Mei Lin. A woman who he had grown somewhat attached too and had wanted to be apart of his plans. In his final moments, he said exactly the thing that would ensure Mei Lin would kill him.
